After a bad performance comparing to the last games, The African Club Of The Century picked their 9th point in the group stage of the African Champions League when they defeated Ajax Qip Town of South African by two goals to nil in their match that was held in El Sekka El Hadeed Stadium. Goals were scored by Ahmed El Sayed in the 5th minute and Emad Meteeb in the 95th minute which secured a lot the chances of the Red Devils to qualify to the semi finals.
El-Ahly started the match with the expected formation having El-Hadary, Nahas, Wael, El Sayed, Gilberto, Hassan, Ashour, Islam, Barakat, Treika and Meteeb.
The Red Devils managed to dominate the match from the first minutes and Gilberto wasted an easy chance from inside the six yards.
In the 5th minute, and from a great follow, Ahmed El Sayed managed to give El-Ahly the lead when he managed to put the ball in the net from a good header which comforted the fans and the players.
After the goal, the performance decreased and the absence of Mohamed Shawky was so obvious especially that his substitute – Hossam Ashour - was completely out form which left Hassan Moustafa alone in the midfield.
Few minutes later, El-Ahly was granted a well deserved penalty kick that was yet wasted by Emad Meteeb which is considered his first miss in penalties since he began playing with the first team.
In the 2nd half, things did not change a lot as the very low level of Ashour gave complete dominance of the midfield to Ajax players and they managed to create some dangerous chances that were saved by the defense line and the PERFECT Essam El Hadary.
And in the stoppage time of the 2nd half, Meteeb managed to score the 2nd goal for the Red Devils after he took Shady's pass and made a wonderful shot that found its way to the back of the net.
After the match, Jose stated that he is so sad from the bad performance of the team but he did not hide his happiness for being on top of the group with the full 9 points while Ajax coach stated that this is considered a good result against the strongest team in Africa and he wished to be able to make a better result in the match that will be held in South Africa two weeks later.
